Gerrit Peters was born in Driel. He worked at the Hevea tire factory and was a member of the resistance in Driel. Gerrit Peters was married to Janna Peters (nee Romein). They had 5 children. 
He refused to go to Germany to work for the Germans and was arrested for his involvement in the April-May strike of 1943.  
He was executed by the Germans on 3 May 1943 in Arnhem, in the woods at the Schelmseweg, about 20 metres west of Waterbergseweg, together with 18 other men. He was buried in a mass grave at the place of the execution. On 7 June 1945 he was reburied in Driel. 
Today a street is named after Gerrit Peters: Petersstraat.
