Stephen Hamilton Dix was a son of Stephen and Annie Hamilton Dix. He was married to Ida Mary Dix, of The Court House, Padstow, Cornwall.
Dix was commanding the battalion. He was killed in action during the the Battle of Broodseinde. During an attack his battalion became scattered due to the boggy state of the ground and suffered several casualties, due to German machine gun fire from a strongpoint. C Company was able to capture the strongpoint. Lieutenant Colonel DIx was reorganizing C Company and ws leading his remaining men to the first objective of the attack when he was killed. His body was later found near Reutel, Belgium.
Lieutenant Colonel Dix was awarded the Military Cross.
