- Roger Frank Cantin was a son of Frank and
Angela Cantin, of Horfield, Bristol.
- Cantin enlisted into the Gloustershire
Regiment in 1942 and joined the Parachute Regiment in 1943. He served
with No. 4 Platoon, B Company. He flew to Normandy onboard of Dakota
KG429, which left from Blakehill Farm airfield. The plane was hit and
crashed near the Saint Martin church of Colombelles, killing 22 men. The
men were given a field burial in a collective grave in the local
cemetery. In 1952 they were reburied in the Ranville War Cemetery.
