Willem Bellen was born on 6 may 1907 in Kerkrade, The Netherlands. He was married to Maria Katharina Quaedvlieg. 
Bellen served with the Mitrailleur Compagnie (Machine Gun Company). He was killed in casemate 66 in Illikhoven, The Netherlands. Three casemates (no. 64, 65 and 66) were located near a small bridge across the Juliana Canal. On 10 may 1940 the Germans attacked the casemates and used a 88 mm antitank gun. Casemates 64 and 66 were totally destroyed and in each casemate 4 of the 5 men inside were killed.   
Willem Bellen was buried in the Roman Catholic Churchyard at Bleijerheide on 28 may 1940. He was later reburied in the Military Field of Honour Grebbeberg.
